Bringing the Winter Wonderland to Life This year, Starbucks' Winter Collection, featuring seasonal favorites like the Peppermint Mocha, Caramel Brulée Latte, and Sugar Cookie Almondmilk Latte, is getting a boost. ANTHROMED isn’t changing the taste of those drinks, though! Instead, we’ve focused on how people experience those drinks, and the feeling surrounding the whole Winter Collection. “We’re all about adding layers to an experience,” says Dr. Emily Carter, Chief Sensory Officer at ANTHROMED. “Starbucks already does a fantastic job with the visual appeal of its holiday drinks and in-store ambiance. We're helping to amplify those feelings, making the experience even more rich and memorable.” How Does it Work? ANTHROMED’s involvement takes several forms. It’s not about flashy gadgets, but about clever, subtle enhancements. Here’s a peek: Aroma Diffusion Technology: You know that amazing smell when you walk into Starbucks? We’ve helped refine that. ANTHROMED developed a targeted aroma diffusion system for select stores, releasing carefully curated scents – think warm vanilla, spiced cinnamon, and a hint of peppermint – that synchronize with the visual cues of the Winter Collection displays. The goal? To make your brain immediately associate those smells with cozy winter feelings. It’s like a shortcut to holiday cheer! Subtle Tactile Experiences: Those beautiful holiday cups? We’ve worked with Starbucks to refine the texture of some limited-edition cups, adding a very subtle embossed pattern that feels good in your hand. It's a small detail, but it adds to the sense of quality and indulgence. We believe that even the way something feels can influence how you perceive its taste. Soundscape Integration: While you’re waiting in line, you might notice a slightly more festive background music selection. We helped craft a soundscape designed to evoke feelings of warmth, togetherness, and nostalgia. It's not about playing loud, obvious Christmas songs, but about creating a subtle sonic environment that complements the visual and olfactory experiences. Think gentle chimes, soft instrumental melodies, and the comforting sound of a crackling fireplace. Point-of-Sale Enhancements: Even the area where you order and pay has been subtly refined. ANTHROMED developed specialized lighting for select promotional displays, enhancing the colors and textures of the Winter Collection packaging. This helps draw the eye and create a more visually appealing experience. We also worked on the visual layout of menu boards to guide customers towards the seasonal offerings. Digital Integration (Pilot Program): In a limited number of stores, ANTHROMED is piloting a digital experience that uses augmented reality (AR) to enhance the in-store ambiance. Using the Starbucks app, customers can scan Winter Collection cups or displays to unlock AR experiences, such as animated snowflakes or a virtual fireplace.
